I’ve borrowed my mates Makita DTW300 which allegedly has 580Nm of nut-busting force and it won’t touch them! Wouldn’t budge them at all.

They crack fairly easily with the Bahco standard socket.

 

Seems like the best bet is to go with the cheapo Makita for speed, but bust and tighten the nuts by hand then!

 

 

Were you using the extension bar on the Makita? You lose a bit of ‘undoingness’ with each additional joint between the gun and the nut. And charged batteries make a difference too. 
But it does sound a bit wank to be fair!

Yes Dan, had to use a 5” extension to fit into the recess, which as you say probably isn’t optimal.

Fully charged 5.0Ah battery.

I’m not buying an impact wrench now.

 

I’ll just use my impact driver with that £4 adapter and a 19mm impact socket, and I’m buying one of these instead.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow. I’ll keep using the windy gun so the neighbours can hear. It might make them think my van is roadworthy.

My collection, please don't ask for model numbers or torque specs, I don't know  😆 

The makita was my first one, 18v brushless, compact and reliable but not hugely powerful. 

The 3 in the second picture came as a package,  the 18v has far more power than the 18v makita,  its a bit bulkier but not too big, makes short work of most things I've tried it on. 

3/8th stubby is great for putting stuff together and gets into some very tight spaces. 

The powered ratchet is good for speeding things up in spaces when the alternative would be a hand tool 😆 

The 90° 1/2 impact is very useful very occasionally 😆  

 

If I was buying from scratch I'd just buy the milwaukee triple pack, the other 2 very rarely get used now.
