Sailor hasn’t got a bloody clue. It’s just a raucous walk. He gets into cover a bit but doesn’t search it assiduously. I sometimes throw sticks at where I want him to look. He’s on a long lead so I can stop him if he does want to flush fifty (not that that’s ever going to happen on this shoot). The lead is a pain but there are hares and deer and I’m not yet part enough of the furniture to take the risk of him chasing them.

I say risk. It’s a certainty.

If the cover is thick ( especially bramble ) watch out for his tail . I have seen dogs with un docked tails at the end of the day in a bloody mess . Its not fair on them . If they are going to to work in thick cover they should have their tails docked when they are pups .

Not a lot of sprawling big bramble patches, just the usual tripwires. The thickest stuff is gorse, which is how he will lose an eye one day. Face first, no fxcks given.

Mmmm . You got to get him more to the whistle for his own sake . We all love our dogs and want the best for them . I have been a keeper , a beater and and a stupid old man but i do try to do the best for any animals in my care. Sorry but I am slightly pissed waiting for a Chinese to be delivered for me and y daughter

Have another look in the morning once your chow mein's worn off.

Its not the chow main , its the flipping wine I am consuming ! 🙂 To be honest I do love my dogs and try to compromise  between efficiency and their well being .
