Ban on felling sycamore?

A friend has been told by a supplier of woodturning blanks and boards that he's struggling to obtain sycamore due to a ban on the felling of it in the North.

Have I missed something?

I've tried the great god Google and only get hits on the Gap Syc on Hadrian's Wall.

Cheers,

Jon

I've about an artic load of the stuff to come out before the end of the year. Wasn't looking forward to it coming back to the yard, it's full of wire, sorry I mean character.

Please keep this rumour going so I can send it over the pond and retire a wealthy man.
