A530 top roller advice

Recommended Posts

Was changing the blades on the a530 at work and noticed the drive shaft to the top roller has a bolt and or grub screw missing where it joins into the universal joint.

i can see that there is a key/keyway in this shaft and have put a nut and bolt through the shaft for now but should it have a grub screw adjacent to this?

Thanks in advance for any advice

I don't think it does have a grub screw,mine didn't.

It's probably got a wee bit of slop there now ,keep the 8.8 bolt in it you will likely shatter a roll pin.

Maybe they use the bolt as a shear pin, usually a PTO shaft isn't usually a round tube so the roll pin is more to stop it sliding out of a very tight fitment.

Suppose, adding a grub screws and a bit of loctite to add a bit of preload ?.

Its got a key on the shaft Gareth, that bolt won't shear unless that key give out and it won't.

I have been using a bolthole through there for 16 years on several machines. The joint between the UJ and the shaft gets slack and shatters roll pins.

I think you are right about the original roll pin just being there to stop the shaft sliding out if you need to lift up the roller after you take off the spring.

Can always double up the roll pin woth a smaller one tapped inside the bigger one
