Taking climbing kit abroad ?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks.

going out to Australia in May on a working holiday visa.

looking at taking my climbing kit with me.   Only issue is.

do the ropes and all other bits n pieces need to be “professionally cleaned”?

was looking at shipping it over ASAP

cheers ,

If that's the guidance then get it cleaned. I've not been to oz, but when I went to nz on holiday they took my walking boots etc off me and clean them at the airport. Because they thought I'd worn them outside and they might be a bit dirty. Very strict bio security.

Don’t take ropes if they been used just take your personal harness, gear and make sure it’s spotless

good friend took all his gear having had it cleaned and bagged most didn’t make it past customs, possibly depends on officer and what day he is having

Don't take any of it.

Just spoke with a family member who lives there and they say it's highly unlikely it will be passed through customs.

What about those Husqvarna branded budgie smugglers?.

I'm a Stihl man myself, but I think even their marketing department draws a line at some point in the catalogue.
