I was lucky enough to do all my ground based and aerial tickets refreshed in a day. The assessor knew us both well enough to know we could cruise through all of the performance criteria. I doubt they'd have done that for just anyone though.

 

I don't see an issue with refresher training. As long as you pick a decent training provider you should always come away with something, and if nothing else its a good opportunity to drill aerial rescue scenarios.

 

Similar with EFAW+F. I try to do one a year. 3 years is an awfully long time to forget some pretty vital stuff.

Yes, upskilling had the same effect as refreshing, but a ground based upskill won't refresh your aerial tickets and vice versa.

Refresher training is a positive in my books. I did last year and things change, you forget things and what is the cost of doing 2 days every 5 years, to keep you refreshed on both aerial and ground based units?

It’s been 29 years since I did my original tickets and keeping up to date by upskilling and refresher training has done me no harm at all.

Exactly, worst case scenario you learn nothing and know you're still doing pretty well at your job.

 

The important thing is to choose your training provider wisely. Don't default to the closest one. I've genuinely had to tie a vt for the trainer on my rigging course before.

 

I prefer to spend a bit more and know I'll be talking to someone smarter than me.

How about the job doesn't change and keeping up with new equipment is naturally done.

So no I won't be spending with the ticket fare collection company's as it's generally bums on seats ..

Its something clients are asking for now . To be fair most other qualifications such as machinery operations ect require refresher or resits . With my assessors head on and not contractors I might run some refresher courses on the Devon Somerset border this summer if there is enough interest . I've just got to get some spiking poles set up and I'm good to go .
