Climbing in Scandinavia/Germany

I am an experienced climber looking into the possibility of working abroad in late 2024.

 

Does anyone have experience moving abroad for work with their family in-tow post Brexit?

 

Are there any companies lurking on here that are interested in UK Climbers?

 

I'd happily travel for a trial week

Not post Brexit for me.  I did make the move to Norway 6 years ago.  But my missus and kids are Norwegian.  Well the kids are Half and half.

 

The rules changed post Brexit, there are ways around the rules but it certainly isn’t as easy as it was when UK was in the EU.

Re Scandinavia it will probably be the same as it was before Sweden joined EU and Norway EEA if you just have a UK passport the employer would have to prove that there was a need to bring someone in from UK. Worked in both Sweden and Norway pre 1990s and didn’t find it difficult to get seasonal work with a landscape company in Norway but it was more difficult/took longer as a climber in Sweden. Don’t know what the situation would be with a family except accommodation would be more difficult than if single. I have dual nationality now. Never worked in Germany but expect it will be the same. Just write to a number of companies and see what the situation is and take it from there.

Late in the year most companies are laying off guys for the winter,head over in the spring.

 

How long do you plan on coming over for and how old are your kids?

I saw that job post and would have jumped at it but my wife has a final year to complete on her midwifery degree. She does have a Modern Languages degree and TEFL qualification which can only help visa applications. 

 

Thanks Vedhoggar and Mike for the heads up. I will have to start contacting some companies and possibly look at moving my plans to spring 2025.

 

My plan was to work abroad for around 6 months. My daughter will be 2 years old by that point.
