Thanks again Spud, With two belts, three cables and a hatfull of adjustments the permutations are endless. I am picking up my new belt tomorrow (I hope) so will keep you posted on progress. A landscape gardener friend of mine recons that I have the only two belt version in existence, because he's never come across one in the fifty odd years he's been in business. The reel drive now works correctly by the way.

I wonder if @lurkalot has come across one of these?

Cheers spud, bad description on my part. The problem is, getting the drive to the cylinder to disengage, the mower works fine, it's just that you cant stop. I have obtained a belt 1.5 cm longer at the enormous expense of £2-29 and will try that.

O.K. woke up Friday with the worst cold that I've had for ages, just surfaced today, belt fitted, adjustments made and bingo, perfect. So we now know something about 14" twin belt Webb Mowers. Cheers all.

The Ransomes 36" Mastiff took a bit more work, requiring me to machine up a new inlet manifold and fit a Amal carb to get a reliable slow tickover for the centrifugal clutch to disengage. Openspaceman might know a little of the history of that one.

Strange way of using the mower, my wife suggests that he has piles!!

Glad the Webbs is up and running. All relatively alike in their own way. I have an Atco Royale a bit like that Ransomes, paint is shyte but the rest of it is built like a tank! just make sure all the drive chains are well lubed in chain oil each use but I guess not your concern now!
