Owner uncontactable or not responding

Opposite my customers house is a small strip of land where there are quite a few trees. Over the last five years two significant trees have fallen and significantly damaged vehicles and property fortunately nobody was injured.

 

My customer is happy to pay for the work required to make several trees safe but I have been unsuccessful in contacting the owner of the land and they have not been forthcoming. No contact has been made. What is the best way to deal with this now?

 

Does anyone have any experience in successfully challenging somebody who has neglected trees like this?

Why are you doing the leg work here, I am sure you are busy with your day job. Surely if you customer wants this work done they should be dealing with it? My experience has taught me not to go down this route. If the customer is really wanting the works they will gather the info (for you to confirm) in the end.

The above is where I stand, and I'd wager that most people who have been doing this for a while would agree.

 

It doesn't make money thus sense to do unpaid investigative work to win a job that probably won't be worth the total hours spent.

 

Same as boundary issues.

If 2 trees have fallen and caused 'significant' damage to property and vehicles was there not an insurance claim process at some point from your customer against the land owner ? 

 

As previously mentioned Highways can instigate an enforcement notice although they are epically slow at everything they do. 

 

The last two comments are on the right track. Dont waste your own efforts on this, let the client do it and call you when they know / have permission.
