Schliesing 220mx fly wheel not engaging

Hi, 

After some advice.  I've a schliesing mx 220 that the chipper flywheel is not engaging. Engine turns ok and drives the belts, but the chipper flywheel and rollers dont turn.

Can you move the flywheel by hand?

Hi Mick,

no everything is free. Flywheel rotates freely by hand. When the engine is running and belts turning, the chipper wheel doesn't rotate. The feed rollers rotate very slowly too.

Is it an electromagnetic clutch system, direct drive via the belts or hydraulic?.

All schliesings have a hydraulic clutch , ideally the fluid needs replacing every few hundred hours, I try and do mine every 100 as I’m anally retarded like that… sounds like you speak to overland on Monday.. sorry Tuesday.

if you look after the clutch though  the machine should last…as the idea of the hydraulic clutch means it takes the strain off the engine and bearings so they last longer… usually though the clutches kind of go bang and it won’t start unless I imagined that conversation with overland, I did have one go on a 220mx was around £900 from memory 😬

Has the main shaft snapped ?

Over 20 yrs since I've had a scheisling, but haven't they ģot a split shaft, with a cush drive. Could the problem be around that area?

Mine (Schliesing 485) has the hydraulic clutch, but it drives the belts, which drive the flywheel.

 

So the OP says the belts are turning, but not the flywheel, so I don’t understand how that happens.

Unless the belts are slipping because the tensioner is seized because it’s never been greased.
