2.5 acres in my book is sheep territory, but small diesels are pretty bomb proof providing you do your basic maintenance.

In all honesty it's more the low down grunt factor Vs the noise of a petrol.

Something like a stand on might be more suitable, plenty of USA types on YouTube flying around on them.

I would have the Cub Cadet Zero turn for 2.5 acres all day long and twice on Sunday . Why stand up/on when you can sit and they are fast as fcuk !

True, I've gone soft in my old age.

It takes me long enough to flail off 40acres several times a year to demand the creature comforts of a seat, radio and a cab to keep away the bugs of late night mowing.

I think you'd be best with a 25-30hp compact tractor to be honest.

I've a 30hp Kubota with both a 6ft Major roller mower and a 6ft finishing mower with mulching kit.

I got the roller mower first and to be honest it's not used that much now, the 6ft finishing mower is the preferred option as it's quieter, lighter (much), easier to manoeuvrer (much), and leaves a better finish.

It will not deal with long grass however, so you can't let it get away from you but I can't imagine you'll deal with it quicker or more cost effectively any other way.

You'll also have a tractor!

Another vote for tractor here. I'd get (well, I do have!) a 25hp compact with a mid mount deck, ideally Kubota for the bi-speed turn feature (where the front wheels speed up to pull you around faster at the headland). Hydrostatic best, much better than gears for mowing. That will be a supreme ride-on mower, you could mulch or collect with it if you wanted- second hand vacuum collectors for the rear can be had all day long for £300-500.

Then you can rent a 3 point linkage scarifier, or buy one for a couple of grand when it comes up. You could have a loader on the tractor if you need to do a bit of lifting. And you'd find all kinds of other uses.

@Muddy42- you didn't say if you were a contractor or looking to do your own lawn. Where are you based?

Sorry I really don't need another tractor!

True, I am turning as much of it as possible into wild flowers which can be used for hay.
