@cornishman07 I know someone that has been looking for a saw and I suspect your 261 might be of interest. If you're looking for a buyer and would be happy to send to Scotland let me know and I'll ask them...

Isn't that one of the much older MS261 as they've now just got three position start/stop/choke ?.

It's a 2013 model so yes an older saw. I seem to remember the 261 being one of the first mtronic saws stihl did and I got the last carb model they had in. Its a while ago now though!

The bottle is actually some of stihls premix which I've periodically started it with to stop it gumming up!

id sell it , we had an early 261 and had no end of trouble with needle bearings and worn crankshaft.

I was racking my brain trying to remember when they started the mtronic as my 2014 is definitely electronic and a newer 2019.

Did have the crankshaft issue on the 2014, retired it as a result. Absolutely cracking saw tho.

Bugger!  I ummed and ahhed for weeks about whether to get a 261 or 400 but was unable to find anywhere that had them both in stock to compare - so went for the 261 as I have an old 066 for big stuff.  Looks like the 400 may have been the one to go for - and I haven't even used the 261 yet!
