I would trying swapping parts over between the two machines to hopefully work out which component is faulty. With any luck you should get at least one running machine out of the two.

I've had to replace throttle switches, main control boards and keypads but no motors yet. Not on the model you have, its mainly been long reach hedge cutters and strimmers.

In case this is of help to anyone...

 

Interestingly, having pulled the two saws apart they are quite different inside, so that scuppered the part swapping plan!

 

Essentially the same but the wiring and plugs are different. The motor is a different size and has an extra plug on.

 

The older one of the two (1st generation?) seems to have a damaged wire between the control unit and the throttle, also a coroded pin on the same wire were it attaches to the on/off switch. If I wiggle the wire about the saw comes on an works fine, but I can't find anywhere that sells the parts. Only the newer (2nd generation?) saw.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The newer ones seem to be better designed for fixing as they are more modular and the wiring is tidier.

 

 

 

Anyway, I appreciate the help and information.

 

I seem to have solved the issue with the newer saw but time will tell.

I do wonder if that's worth sending to a good industrial electrical repair place, they would solder and sleeve to sort out broken wires, and the connector pin is unlikely to be specific to Husqvarna to be honest.

I do wonder what the 'law' is regarding first generation cordless stuff and the OE support and supply of repair parts. Had a guy in recently with a Toro multi tool system...one battery and charger being used in chainsaw, grass trimmer, hedge trimmer, etc. Wanted a replacement battery.......actually two, so he had a spare. The original battery was messing about- hence why the replacement required.

 

Money wasn't the issue for him. Supply was. He has trawled the 'net' with no luck. Came to me as his closest main dealer......contacted Toro. "Sorry obsolete" was the response. "We only produced that machine to take that battery for two years- latest newer model takes a diffferent battery and not interchangeable"

 

I told Toro how disappointed this customer would be to hear that. I rung him to explain I couldn't help and I asked him how old the kit was......he said it's just over two years old.

 

800 quids worth of gear...useless as cannot get a battery for it. More landfill.

It's certainly abit disappointing not to be able to service the older saw.

 

One option I was cosidering is to replace the old control unit, throttle, switch etc for the newer generation stuff. The older motor runs in the new saw but it has an extra plug. Any opinions on the viabilty of doing that.

 

Or as Dan Maynard suggests, maybe look at having the wire fixed. So much trouble over such a tiny little wire 🤣

That is a bit ridiculous, just over two years old and obsolete. 

 

I know that there is a move to make batteries and chargers compatible across a range of different brands and products but its only for the consumer market. At least its a step in the right direction.

Sorry, not been on for a while.

 

Obviously one saw is too old for that issue, the other one doesn’t look like in the right range of serial numbers.
