I have a set of ramps from these people

The UK' Largest Selection of Superior Quality Aluminium Ramps for Vehicles. Amazing Prices Plus Free UK Delivery. Customisable. We Have Ramps For All Needs. Over 25 Years'...

I use them with my Ifor Williams trailer.  Found them to be well made a friend uses his to run machines into the back of his 7.5t tipper. They come with an interlocking plate that can be used to stop the movement at the top end. I'll try to get a photo to show it in use.

I have in the past transferred equipment from the back of a truck onto a trailer. But it had jack legs on the trailer to steady it.

I have tried the same. I have a bobcat e27z (fairly heavy at about 2800kg with long arm and counterweight) and a Thwaite 4.5t dumper. I few times I loaded the bobcat I to the back of my Iveco 75 and had the dumper on the plant trailer. Although technically there isn't much height difference (floor to trailer vs trailer to truck) it felt very unsafe. After 5 times of doing it I decided to stop! Felt like I was asking for trouble.

What I would recommend is aluminium ramps from Jacksta 6,000kg aluminium ramps. They are really solid and we're only £600 when I bought them. Massive improvement on my old ifor ones.

Going to mock up some ramps with planks to get the length righ and then buy alloy ones.

They are quite rare but I have seen a Brian James crossover in the flesh once. It's an option on the cargo connect I think.

I can't work out how to send the image, if you google images "Brian James Cross Over" its the first image

EDIT: Forgot to say it was very good, well thought out and easy to use. I would guess much better than anything you could homebrew
