would you leave the body as standard or would you modify it so you gain extra carrying capacity as the standard profiled bodys seem really uneconomical space wise

We'd aim to leave it standard to keep the original styling, but we'd like to develop a solution/option to create higher sides should you wish to carry a bit more too.

A chap near me has an 03 single cab hilux that he has made into a tipper himself using the original butt. it looks bloody ace and works very well too.

Would love to have a normal looking truck with the butt tipping so yes in answer to your question.

Brilliant, thanks for your answer!

it needs to be affordable mate, nothing you dont know already. If you could do it for a grand then i think you would have a queue as far as the eye could see, i am no engineer, i cant even weld, but i do have ideas, and i always get let down by guys with welders who dont want to try new ideas. A back that looks standard with a lid on it, but when you want to make it bigger, the top is in 2 halfs, they fold up to make your greedy sides, then 2 small bits unfold, 1 on each side and create the headboard. and then you just take out the canvass made to measure roof cover out of a lovely small bag, it fits as snug as a bug, bunjee it onto the tie down clips(that can be used when the sides are a top as well) job done.:thumbup1::biggrin:

That sounds like a transformer, robots in disguise! :001_smile:

Dont own any of the above vehicles but they do look pants when fitted with an alloy back, your way of keeping it looking orignal does sound like a really good plan:thumbup1:

Sounds like a brilliant design idea to me!

would find something like that very useful as well as affordable for £1k.

It could be ideal for so many different jobs I think it would be worthwhile having it wethere you intend using it or not.

One thought though... if it could be done and works, would the manufacturers not have already done it?

I agree the tipper bodies on pick-ups do the styling no good at all so I would say you're onto a good one here!

We could find a solution to do that, I don't know if you'd get a lot in the tub when it's folded away as you'd have the wheel arches to contend with etc, but it's got scope.

could it be done with my 110hcpu? sod the next owner, i want it to tip n look the same, or do i? maybe building a bespoke backbody i could incorporate tool lockers underneath. can't decide..Ed

Ed, Looking at the photos on google images it appears the back is split away from the cab so that too could be possible. We'd need to have a look at one before making a decision. Your other option of the bespoke body with toolboxes etc would definately be possible.

I think its a brilliant idea but it would all be down to space and carrying capacity as the cradle and tipping gear are going to reduce the payload.

Good luck with it though mate

Thanks Robert. Load space wouldn't be any differernt to the standard item unless you wanted to incorporate the higher sides which fold away as Shreks Wee Brother has suggested. Weight wise we'd look at developing a solution which minimises weight, but without having any issues on strength, durability or reliability. There'd be no point in us developing something that didn't work and couldn't carry anything.

i think its a great idea......sticking an ali tipper or the like on a pickup really ruins the look for me personally

Thanks Steve, thank you too for allowing me to post. This is what we think too.

the only issue i can see with this is the wheel arches. will they not retain some of the material when tipping? otherwise a great idea to keep the original lines of the vehicle.

That may be a slight issue, but hopefully not a great deal of load would get stuck.

I know what your saying, I know the L200 4work model has a "factory fit" option, but not with the original body. Maybe they think everyone wants the practical option with the dropsides. Or maybe they don't want the hassle of it? Or maybe it isn't possible but if people want it, we'd like to try to find a way to do it! :confused1:
