Chain sharpening clamp/vice

Are there any decent bench mounted clamps/vices for holding chains when sharpening?

Found this on an american site. Any info much appreciated.

The oregon ones were great. I don't think they do them now if I recall. Made hand sharpening very easy imo. Other option is just a standard bench vice and clamp the whole saw in, but this will be the cheapest option over a decent vice

Think im being very dense but what does that thing in the above link do better than clamping the bar straight into a regular bench vice?

I am guessing you tighten the nuts and it clamps up to stop the chain moving?

Seems not needed imo, just hold with left hand....

Don't see the point of it, can use left hand and  want to keep moving the chain around the bar as  sharpening anyways.....

For doing processor chains I just use an old bar screwed to the workbench. It saves undoing a vice to turn chains.

Just interested to get some ideas. I mainly do milling and often have up to five chains on the go. much simpler and better use of time to put a sharp chain when needed while milling. Therefore it is useful to be able to sharpen a number of chains in a session in workshop without having to fit them on to a saw. Also like the idea of reducing movement of the chain for precise and accurate sharpening.

Many ways to sharpen a chain, and everyone has a preference based on their set up. Some will have the workshop set up, electric grinders, some a vice in the workshop or one to hammer into a stump. Not seen the spare bar one yet though, that is new to me.

 

My preference - for occasional domestic use - will be in the living room watching QI on Dave when the family are in bed, with the saw on my knee - never going to be the sharpest but it does what I need. My work bench is full of other little projects at the moment, trickier to do it in there, but one day, first I just need to finish this and that to make space. As far as I can tell though clamping the bar in a vice, if you want you can use the saws chain lock, but hold the chain with your other hand and all is good like that

There are levers the other side and springs, it was quick and easy to knock the levers off , the springs then push the jaws apart, move the chain round and re clamp.
