GPSBob Tracker

I have been looking for GPS trackers for years but always been put off by the initial purchase and ongoing subscription costs, I purchased some a few years back that needed a sim card and they were OK, but you needed to top up the credit and charge them and so we ended up not using them. 

 

A few months ago I did another search and came across GPS Bob (https://gpsbob.com/). I tried a few and think they are great, I now fit them to all our vehicles.

Go to their web site to find out what they do but basically for a one off purchase price (£140 inc VAT) you get a tracker with no ongoing costs that should last 5 years without needing a top up.  They are easy to install and if you change the vehicle it can easily be removed.

 

I am sure there are better options for theft protection, but I find it really useful to see where teams are. Some will think it is all big brother and I am spying on the teams and it is true I can see what time they leave the yard, or if they are parked down the pub, or even speeding.  But it is great to know where they are. I can let clients know when they are on their way, without having to call.  I can redeploy teams who get done.   

 

The backup has been great, we did have a few issues, but I contacted them via the web site and the UK based team phoned me up and sorted it.  Definitely recommend.

2 hours later I would have expected a few comments, my initial thoughts are they can be useful... but only as good as whoever is monitoring them. Give your teams some slack and should be OK, monitor and get them to justify their every movement and you will create an unhappy team.

Put trackers on the trucks, I would.

 

If they’re stopping at the bakery or Maccy Ds to pick up some lunch on the way, fair enough.

 

Otherwise, get to where you’re meant to be.

If they are going to be used for what you describe ( checking on your boys ) then yea if its what you do . If they are going to be used for theft recovery , the bit where you say " they can be easily removed "  makes them next to useless I would think .

You can hide them so I think they could still be very valuable and you can set it up so you get a message when it moves so still could help .

I think the light fingered follows have things that find trackers. A chap who has a scrap yard down from me had all his skip lorry’s fitted with trackers and well hidden and about 2 years or so back had all the lorry’s nicked and all the trackers we left in a pile in the yard smashed up. He got them all back a week later because the dippy idiots didn’t change one of the rear licence plates and got palled by coopers in the midlands somewhere. But he seemed to think they had some sort of scanner because they were hidden at the back of the engine and they were only about the size of a large match box.

A customer mine was telling me that the unit he uses cost something like a fiver per month and are right tiny. He hides a few on each machine so that if the buggers find one, something else is still transmitting!

 Some thieves will be smart where as others will be stupid. It's not going to do any harm having a tracker and as I said, the fact I know where my teams are is great and means they won't be tempted to go and do things they should not be doing when they are supposed to be working..
