I cut up an oak log maybe two feet (probably less) in diameter and eight feet long. Got myself a 7x7, three 5x4s and a couple of decent boards. Changing from the standard blade to the 1.5” Ripper37 was a revelation.

@william127Sorry for the thread hijack, this is all just so you learn from my mistakes 🤣

Great job👍👍

Please carry on hijacking,  pictures of my mill under a tarp in the shed are of no interest to anyone 😄😄👍

A date has been booked to put it together though 👍👍

Finished the sub frame off with a couple of fork pockets. Had an ‘oh shit’ moment when I realised that I had possibly welded the forks to the frame too, but a couple of good whacks with a sledge sorted it 🤣

Im hoping the C section fork pockets will be sufficient cross-reinforcement.

Its on the trailer ready to take to the workshop tomorrow, really looking forward to it👍👍

Went to the Weird and Wonderful World of Wood(really great day out)yesterday,  saw loads of great milled timber and more finished products, now I really can't wait to get stuck in!

Well I'm pretty pleased with that. Blade is on and tensioned, the carrige goes up and down and forwards and backwards, tomorrow  we just need to oil and fuel the engine,  connect the battery and get testing 👍👍

But that would be far too relaxing,  so we're doing that lot, and  I'm heading off to grab a pile of second hand rsjs so we can do a base frame as well😅😅

Overall I'm very impressed with the quality of the mill itself and the way it was packaged.

The instruction manual is pretty good, a few bits where a picture is clearly a slightly different model buy its all understandable.  I ended up with 2 copies which was bloody handy with 2 of us  doing it but would be handy even on your own👍👍
