Hourly rate vs Day rate, Opinions?

Just want to see what peoples opinions are regarding hourly wage vs day rate. What are peoples thoughts

No one works to hourly rate or day rate with clients.
Subbies should have a set day rate for x work period
ie £200 for a 0800 - 1630
This needs agreeing before taking on said subby. They also need in writing if they plan to charge for staying longer etc etc

Not quite true day rate for long periods is ok especially if multiple jobs and or sites are involved, I work anywhere south of Newcastle we get same rate for anywhere including travel it would be impossible to price these works.

Nothing wrong with an hourly rate as long as it includes £x per mile travelling, allows for a bit of wear and tear on the saws, starts when you leave the yard and stops when you get back.

In some cases if your charging client x amount an hour and go work efficiently on a job you’ll find it’s seems too cheap but too late bye then.

Day rate can be handy when you get an unusual job to price or clients that want you doing various tasks over a few visits and you know they will change their minds continuously
Set out what machines are included in the price or what extra they will be. As long as it’s all set out there is little chance for ambiguity.
In terms of staff / subbies I’ve always paid day rate.
No one has given me an hourly rate except on large machinery
Finishing times are swings and roundabouts, sometimes a day is done at 3 sometimes it’s 5. Generally it balances out but if it’s a lot of late Finishes a bit of extra cash smoothed things
