If I ever get to be in a position to buy some land/forest I think Id go the Scribe route. But I'll see how the cabin comes out with the Log Moulder first. 

I will definitely do a full scribe at some point, even if it’s on a micro scale, just for kicks.

The guys I knew who went to Devon where dealing with timbers that needed offering up with a telehandler, Canadian style cabins, very, very nice.

They bought woodland in Bulgaria and never came back, one of them was on the run from a Glaswegian gangland mob though!

Timber framing is a far more complicated and in depth subject than scribing logs for a cabin..
I do a fair bit of timber framing and consider myself very under skilled in the big picture of what framing can be.
I watch videos of the old boys framing and can see I have a lot to learn.
I have dabbled in log cabin style scribing on the rear wall of a very small cruck frame shed and although I'm not saying it's simple, for someone with carpentry knowledge and the ability to read, the whole process is easily Enough self taught compared to the world of framing.

Scribing and cruck framing is way more simple than something like green oak timber framing.
I’ve built a couple of small oak frames , porches etc from our milled timber. Way more involved and higher level of skill required. Plus bigger tools !
I’d do a porch or a small outbuilding / shed. I certainly wouldn’t do bigger than that.
Happily leave that to the pros who specialise in it. [emoji4].

seems like they've not had a course since the plandemic. I'll drop them an email anyway. Within driving distance for me but my old man lives in Rosyth so posible I could crash there.

They mention they plan on holding the course in April, Im working all April so Im hoping that slips to May. 

 

This is the highlight really;

 

Courses will cover all the necessary skills and information required to manufacture and construct  a traditional timber frame building measuring 3m x 4m.

 

Course 101 - Week 1

We will construct a traditional timber frame structure measuring 3m x 4m up to wall plate level. The cost for this course will be £500 including vat.

 

Course 102 - Week 2

We will complete the roof structure for the structural frame completed during week 1. The cost for this course will be £500 including vat.

A couple of guys I know attended one and really rated it, they went on to buy a Black Pine block in Bulgaria and developed a holiday cabin complex, never saw them again.
