Sitka spruce vs lodgepole pine firewood

Hello, I'm buying a load of pulpwood. I've the option of lodgepole pine or Sitka spruce. What are the merrits of each firewood? Any help appreciated

As firewood, I'd choose the pine. Denser and a lower overall water content. It'll be sticky to process though.

 

That said, almost my entire winter's fuel is sitka and it's great. I suppose all I'd say is that given the choice I'd take pine.

Lodgepole makes quite good firewood once dried out, it gives a good heat out, we get a fair bit of it and the only problem with it is if left outside in the length it soon starts to rot but should be ok for a year or so,

I'm burning lots of pine currently, not sure which but it's very good.  I CSS it in lockdown #1 so it's well dry. Very resinous, lots of 'fat wood' which burns insanely hot and for much longer than you'd imagine. I'd be very pleased to get more, very pleased.

Prefer lodge pole having burnt both, as seems abit denser once dried.

 

Wood database says both have similar densities...suppose depends on local climate also.

I found much the same with scots and corsican thinnings, if not crosscut and split they go pulpy inside the bark, sitka bark splits and the wood seem to dry hard.

 

Bigger scots have a resinous heartwood, so more heat, but I have never felled a big lodgepole.

Knotty lodge pole is very hard to split but it shouldn't be that knotty if from a  plantation

 

 

Had a big single grown windblown one that was mostly made up of knots ... 🙂

Its north costal lodgepole so it shouldn't be too knotty
