I spoke to predator a while back and they said that the p28 and 38 had very similar torque, just that the 38 ran higher rpm to achieve that thus drinking more fuel. 

 

I bought an older p26 in the end. I like it.

Was never keen on the twin Lombardini engine, like an old dumper and v viby, the Carlton is a good machine but its just not made for run of the mill domestics in the UK same as most of the US machines, that's where the pred scores so well.

may be worth seeing what this lands at in price Ian. Long tracks look stable

I know what you mean.... I've run an old 252 for years and now got this predator it doesn't go out  ... done a few jobs recently that the 252 wouldn't have fit in aswell..... 

 

252 might be going at some point I think!

 

I like them. Just fuel on bothe the 38 and zt are astronomical dri kers...... how can you allow 70-80 quid a day into your rate for fuel and still be competitive? Just putting pressure on yourself there I say.

On the bali  website. It clearly states that hmrc has classified domestic tree surgery in private gardens is classified as horticulture and can continue to use red diesel

Yup , Swinny is correct. For domestic only.

Work at a church or school for example and it has to be white. Anything adjoining a public rd. -white.

Maybe I should fill the tank half red and half white to cover the bases [emoji23]

Just off hired a norcar loader this week. Was told had the come back full of white.

Easy, charge what you need to and get the job or let someone else do it. I don't win plenty of stump jobs as I charge a decent price that covers my machine costs, fuel costs, wages etc. no point working for nothing, you break teeth or something and your on a looser. Ent out there that work for little or nothing mate. Don't be one of them. However.....I guess it can depend on where you live also.

I'm all up for charging what you can but I meant asin for instance..... 

 

I can do a stump for 250 quid, you could do it for 250 quid also but your fuel costs are either on top or eating out of that . 

 

Who's going to come out on top and more brass?

I sort of get what you are saying but if he's £70 a day on fuel for grinder then it depends how much he's charging for the day. Also as long as your vat reg then there's 20% back to start with. A £250 stump for me would only have a fuel cost of about £10 for example. I know when I did a job for £900 my fuel cost and lad helping wage was £160 I think so that great for 5hrs work.

if the ZT is using twice the fuel but twice as fast ……

 

1hour 2x£250 stumps =500

-£20 fuel

 

or 1hour, 1x250 stump -£10 fuel

 

who’s winning here? 
 

id happily say the ZT is twice as fast as the wee tracked Vermeer.

 

then the jump in price to a more fuel efficient grinder is more than substantial, it’d take a lot of stumps to recoup that extra investment. 

the 38hp petrol machines are a lot of performance for their purchase price imo. Good enough to be competitive/profitable but cheap enough to sit in the garage for weeks on end.
