Went to reduce some conifers today 09/11/21 and had to postpone due to 2 blackbird nests, unusual or due to warm weather?

Β

About 15 years ago I saw a blackbird sitting eggs in a hedge abutting a university building in February. I assumed the warmth from the building made them start early.

That's a shame; I'd say that not only would any hatchlings not stand a chance due to cold and lack of food but the parents would struggle trying to feed offspring to their own detriment.Β  A lose, lose situation

We had bats flying at noon yesterday - is that normal?

No, perhaps something has disturbed their roost.

Make sure birdfeeders are nearby and full. K

Blackbirds aren't interested in the peanuts, sunflower hearts orΒ mixed seed we feed.Β  I wouldn't expect them to hop up onto the feeders but they even stay away from the spill; there are plenty of other willing avian ground feeders for that thoughΒ
