How to estimate a log's weight

Recommended Posts

When you start moving 2 ton plus logs be very careful.

I’ve seen it go wrong in various ways before…

I don’t trust winches near max payload either.

Scary when it slips.

Always factor 50-100% of weight of log in your moving. Ie have a lot of spare SWL.

Seen a lot of bent ramps and a few very bent trailers….

Stay safe[emoji106]

Everything oversize. I usually bend my ramps getting the logs off not on. Good job I like welding.

I regularly move 6 tonne plus logs with my winch though. Nice and easy if your careful

No offence but f that !
Tirfor or cheap copy works very well with an Ifor trailer and metal ramps for parbucking , feels relatively safe and works well.

I completely agree, but if the op hasn’t got access to a winch then it can be done. I wouldn’t do it as my first option

Thanks to all for comments and advice: the timber is safely moved! Please see below, the learning curve was vertical but actually the worst bit was driving it all back home,,,> <a href=http://dcn6x9s7fzj11.cloudfront.net/monthly_2021_09/20CD571D-98F8-46C5-99A7-70675B978902.thumb.jpeg.8ad5ced3ace2a153210c5ff629e3e647.jpeg' alt='20CD571D-98F8-46C5-99A7-70675B978902.thumb.jpeg.8ad5ced3ace2a153210c5ff629e3e647.jpeg'>
