Stihl mowers any good

I have a small 30 a week garden maintenance round I normally use honda izys just the push version as I enjoyed the workout they gave me lol but now I'm in my 50s I'm needing a self propelled one for 300_500 price range been looking at Stihl as all my other stuff i.e strimmers blowers hedge cutters are of this brand and are great just wondering if any one has a recommendation or used this brand of mower many thanks

Yes that was my understanding as well. Nothing wrong with Viking mowers either. Neighbour did ground maintenance for a living and always ran Viking mowers

Yes . My limited experience of walk behind self propelled mowers is between Honda and Hayter . The Honda has a great engine and an over complicated drive mechanism that can fail where as the Hayter has , probably a Briggs engine but a simple , less to go wrong drive system .  Edit . Just googled the top 10 best s/p mowers in the U.K.2021(£500ish )  and niether of the above feature ! Have a look . ( don't tell trig you used google though ) .

They used to be Viking but now Stihl branded

Thought viking was always a stihl  owned sub- brand?

 

 

 

Some cheaper  mowers seem  to have underpowered engines for the deck width and  lack any anti - vibration control compared to more expensive ones.

 

 

 

So id look out for thoose two things.

One thing to consider is the weight, do you have to lift the mower, or do you have a ramp? The kaaz mowers are good (pricey) but over 60kgs!

 

 

I had a go on a stihl rm253 recently, felt kind of flimsy? Probably no better or worse than any other mower at that price range.

Engine that small size may struggle with any longer or damp grass i think, but that maybe less of and issue if grass is all regular cut.

 

Its a 2.1KW  non /own brand engine on rm253?

 

the   honda izy if a gx160 has 3.6 kW...

Has  a high lift blade as standard supposedly  will bag better.

 

 

Think there was/is a stiga dealer on here GardenKit he might have an opinion about this model etc.
