Stihl MSA 220 battery saw bar length

I have a 220 I bought it with the 2" above standard bar.

I think that makes it the 16"

With standard chain spec.

You will kill that saw if you put anything bigger than a 16" on it. You will simply cook the batteries and half the life span of them. Its like towing a 5 ton trailer with a transit van.

I think its more could it cut the full 18" & I would say no.

 

The bigger the log the battery life drops dramatically.

 

I wanted longer for ease of use not the cut length.

 

The frictional difference 2" will make when not actually cutting would be tiny.

 

4" of extra friction on top of 32" but in a log the demand will be lots more.

A cordless saw will not run those length bars and i mean any saw. Battery development has come on no end but not that much yet

But the 10Ah battery must be a hell of a lump.   I've got that saw and a pair of 5aH batteries; they're quite heavy enough thanks!

And I put a 14" bar on it; I thought that if I ever wanted a bigger bar I'd turn to a petrol saw.

 

Have you had any problems with the bar oiling?  My saw oil's well, the oilways on the bar are fine but next to no oil reaches the chain.  My suggestion is that the tangs on the chain can't reach down far enough into the bar to grab the oil.  

Anyway Ego have it back for now but when it was cutting it was great.  I want the saw for a very similar purpose to yourself albeit on a much smaller scale - up to ~10"dia laurel mostly, some holly with it, in a small piece of old, possible ancient, woodland.
