Stihl ms881 on what bar?

Just wondering what bars people are running on an 881?

 

Usually use a 660 on a 36"

 

Seems a bit pointless for 36"....

 

Other options are 41" rollermatic es lite.... Why only 5" longer and es light just a cheap wearing bar? 

 

Then the 48" duromatic.... Power sapping pointless bar?

 

Just wondering on people's thoughts. 

 

Mainly for ringing up bigger diameter timber and won't get loads of use

I would put the shortest bar you think you can get away with on any saw .

Why not get a 36” and then buy a 48” with a sprocket nose afterwards. If your going to buy a big saw you need to use it and sometimes on hard timber like beech it is nice with a 36”

I have a 41 and a 30. I love it on the 30, tonnes of torque and nicely balanced. 41 is nose heavy and not as nice although practical for large cross cutting. 

 

I'd rather fell with an 18" on a 261 than a 30 on the 881 though. But that's me.

In fairness most of the bigger tree's I do are beech and syc but sometimes you need the reach. I would expect it to fairly boss a 41" if they could drag a 48" around on the old 880 with no sprocket

Definitely, most of felling etc is done with a 660 and 36" 881 is mainly just for ringing up thats all.

If it's just for ringing up then get the 41/46 with the rollomatic tip. I wouldn't get the Duro for cutting rounds

We’ve been running ours with a 50” Cannon super bar, admittedly mainly for cross cutting but it’s been good so far, plenty of power etc...
