  1. No unfortunately not, the estate team had just taken delivery of a new digger and they were excited to try digging some stumps out with it!
  2. ….ready to be dug out by the estates gardener.
  3. Not sure if the video will work but this is our T202. Handy set up with winch box on the front, Botex on the roof and TP320 on the back, pretty good for all the tight spots and smaller woodlands in the hills around us. IMG_0316.MOV
  4. Might be a bit expensive for a first set but my wife wears Pfanner ventilation with the longer leg option, which she says are the best of all the different ones she’s had so far. Not cheap mind, and they charge extra for the long version but they will last a long time at least.
  5. Cordless Stihl hedge cutters - there isn’t a grease port on the head, so I asked the guy in the dealership about it when I picked our first set up and he said they don’t need greasing. Seemed odd to me, especially after a few months they sounded pretty dry. So popped the cover off and put some grease in there, a year down the line and the motor gave out a puff of smoke and that’s them done. Not very helpful as I honestly don’t know if the grease killed them or made them last a bit longer?
  6. I see what your saying, but I’m not sure that is always the case in reality. Besides, if you have a fleet of saws etc that are maintained and running well, your not going to be best pleased if you switch for a ‘trial’ and end up with repairs to make. Whatever the reason folks should at least be aware of that before changing is all I’m saying. As I said, it was only one saw for me and I have no need/intention of changing from pump fuel so it wasn’t really an issue, but if you had it happen to multiple machines you would have to factor the repair costs in at least.
  7. Another thing that may be helpful to bear in mind is that it can be more complicated than simply trying Aspen for a few months then switching back, especially if your saws have been running pump petrol for a while. We have always used super unleaded and Stihl Ulta oil, don’t know if it’s related or not but we don’t have many engine related issues so we stick with it. A while back we leant a saw out to a friend who put a tank of Aspen through it, the saw wouldn’t run properly after that which resulted in a strip down of the engine by Spud. Apparently something to do with the seals? Anyway, not to say there’s anything wrong with Aspen, just that switching between the two can cause some issues.
  8. We have a Valtra with 7 meter roof mounted crane, forestry winch and TP320 crane fed chipper. Supplied man and machine only, based in Calver, Hope Valley. The machine can get itself to site within a reasonable distance, after which low loader haulage is also possible. Feel free to give us a call if you need more information. 9. So has anyone managed to get these fitted to a Protos yet then? it would be good to see a picture if so please
  10. Not sure if it ever got posted or not but was there mention of some pictures of the Stihl Procom’s fitted to a Protos? It would be great if anyone has a photo of that setup they could share please?
  11. So there’s an adaptor clip so they fit a Protos helmet? I’m guessing they just don’t tuck away like the standard Protos ones? That would be good if they can be fitted.
  12. This is only our experience but for what it’s worth…. We we’re looking for a Valtra/Botex and crane fed chipper setup for a couple of years, looked all over, private sales, various dealerships etc…and in the end Ian Brown from Jas P Wilson found us the unit we bought. It is just what we were after, and while I’m sure we cool have found the same cheaper elsewhere, they have been brilliant sorting out any issues we’ve had since buying it. In our experience, a great company to buy from. Anyway, point being even if they don’t have what your after right now might be worth a call to them in case something comes up?
  13. So what’s the key then chaps? Sounds like you’ve both done something right to keep going that long physically, and still be enjoying it. Very impressive!
  14. We’ve been running ours with a 50” Cannon super bar, admittedly mainly for cross cutting but it’s been good so far, plenty of power etc...
  15. Is that a double ended GB bar? If so, we had exactly the same wear milling some 1600mm width Oak last week. Double ended GB with an 881 and 880 on either end. Be interested to know what caused it......
  16. I honestly wouldn’t bother with the Panther bar, we’re pretty careful with ours and it didn’t last long at all. I couldn’t get hold of Rob, guess they’re busy, so in the end I bought the 10” stihl bar and chain for a 150 and used that, works brilliantly. It does however mean drilling a new tensioner hole in the Stihl bar so it fits the echo.
  17. Hi all, We’ve hired a grinder in for years so tried a few, but we’ve just bought our first one an FSI B22. It’s the narrow access one with the powered wheels. Got so say we’ve been really impressed with it so far. Only had one issue to date, a small grub screw that pinches the throttle cable must have vibrated out. Guess it’s a common thing as it’s one of the few replacement parts listed on Spectrums site. like I say, only had it about 3 months but done some pretty big stuff and it’s coped well. Perfect machine size for us as it drives straight up the ramps into our tipper and suits Sheffield’s tight access gardens well.
  18. Hi all, We felled a good sized Ash tree today in Cromford, Derbyshire. The majority of the timber will go for firewood of course, but I thought I’d see if anyone was interested in the main stem first. I’ve attached a few pictures of it. Aside from the nail in the felling cut it’s nice and clean. 800mm diameter at the butt, 5m along the stem it’s 600mm diameter. Felled away from a main road (which conveniently is closed at the minute due to a landslide a few miles up the road) so the stem would need to be lifted over a hedgerow. Of course we can cut it into whatever sized pieces are required. It’s not a problem if no one is interested, we do have an Alaskan Mill so we could always mill the first section and process the rest. Feel free to give Sam a call on 07793064684 if you want any more info.
  19. Nice one, thanks guys. They both look much better than the tables I have already. I guess because the unit is pretty accurate, the setting makes a big difference. Testing some dry Silver Birch logs for example, it makes a difference of nearly 20% moisture reading on the 2 different settings listed for Birch. Thanks again fellas. Sam
  20. Hi guys, just looking for a bit of advice with our newly acquired Protimer Timbermaster. We bought it second hand, so it just came with the cable and unit, no instructions. The problem were having is finding any information on which of the A-J settings to use for checking UK species of timber, Hawthorne etc... Ive found a chart online, but its for American species predominantly and is giving us some crazy readings! Any help much appreciated. Sam
