Chipper fuel use

Quick question:

 

I'm putting together a project proposal. 

 

Has anyone got a ballpark figure for the amount of fuel required to chip 100 tonnes of small diameter poplar with a 9" chipper? Also roughly how much time would this take (hand feeding).

 

Would also be useful to know if a 'free standing' chipper or tractor mounted pto powered chipper would be best for this job?

Is the brash all in a pile in one location? Is the access decent?

For that quantity I’d be looking at getting a biomass chipper in personally - an Albach would get through that in less than 2 hours if it could load the material fast enough.

Yes, material will be all in one location and access is fine for a lorry.

 

Do you know the going rate for getting one of these big chippers in for half a day?

Id go fr the tracterr mount, yr on red deisel, more oomph, easier to move it around yr site. K

Suffolk wood chip maybe worth a try, never used them but looks like they could chip and cart away.

If there is 100 tonnes with decent access and you don’t want/need the chip then you should be able to sell it. If you are chipping for your own use then obviously it’ll cost money, but will definitely be cheaper than the overall cost of dealing with it by hand.

Liam Webb at Maple Trees in Nottingham would also quot to chip, chip and remove or possibly just remove with walking floor unit.

Suffolk woodchip have a biomass chipper mounted on a silage trailer, also their own fleet of lorries and on top they’ll buy it off you.
