You'll overload the lift cylinder on the 3 point, + there's a chance of bending the liftarms, it's less stable, and the 3 point can flip up if the trailer is rear heavy --> ending in disaster if you're unlucky.

Ok, that sounds like a good list of benefits ...

On the subject of 3 point forklifts a Hyster has just come up locally for a few hundreds. It looks like a pile of metal sticks and hasn’t been used in years. Needs forks. Any good?

And bit of a derail, the fergie clutch is stuck on. I think it needs splitting to have a look/change it?

Are there any places can be recommended to take it, in East Anglia or east Midlands? I have a feeling people that service new tractors may not be best...

I assume you mean the clutch plate has stuck itself to the flywheel. Two ways to fix it, first is wedge the clutch pedal down with a weight or piece of wood and leave it a week. With a bit of luck it will free itself.

Second way is to hold the clutch down and just drive it around for a while, putting a bit of a strain on it if you can by driving it up a hill (be careful buggering about on hills!). They usually give after a while and often with quite a bang.

Certainly true if pulling a trailer but not so bad if dragging logs, pulling rollers harrows etc. Look up "9 hole drawbar", they are made specifically to do just that.

I should probably have been clearer on that. The things I listed are reasons why you shouldn't pull a trailer with the 3 point hitch on a tractor.

Good spot. Yes I think you’re right - the one here is missing its tines and I see they’re quite substantial. It’s probably too needy for me at the moment - I have my hands full.

Old Fords and massey are overpriced and underspecced if you actually want to work with it. For that the price you could get an international or David brown with power loader, power steering, pick up hitch and a drawbar, two speed pto, more horsepower etc

What I really wanted (but it was a long way away and I couldn’t view it) was a real value for money outlier - a Universal 4wd for about the same money. Abandoned Italian tooling, built in Romania. Apparently impossible to kill. But we went mainstream - easy parts and easy fixing. 1981B450-1EB5-4BD0-BC46-4B04E28F4F8F.thumb.png.6181173e413bdc2ce0cb5792f70b5eab.png
