Just get a little tacho meter that wraps around the HT lead. Simple fit.

Ok, something like this then?

I take it that an inductive hour meter is what I need?

Yes, that's the kind of thing. Battery powered and then you just wrap the sense wire around one of the HT leads a few times and secure with a cable tie. Trickiest bit will be mounting it somewhere nicely.

Cheers for that. I will see what decent flat surface is available when the chipper arrives and get my thinking cap on.

I use this kind of thing. I think I have about 4 on different bits of kit.
Works on Any Gas Engine.
Record and display to 9,999.9 hours. Automatic roll over. Record and display to 9,999.9 hours. We'll do reply you as soon as possible and try...

No battery, runs of the power it takes from the induction off the HT lead. Very simply - just works.

for a professional use of a small size machine with the 420cc size engine, what would you choose between:

a petrol and a diesel engine and why ?

for me the interest goes with:

1.performance

2.reliability

3.fuel consumption

The input I had so far is that the diesel is lower in fuel consumption, lower in performance and more expensive on the parts and any repair vs the petrol engine. Also the diesel has more vibrations, so more demanding on the machine's body.

Chip in here please!
