Plastic free tree guards/ shelters

Recommended Posts

I wonder if someone can give me some advice based on their own experience.

I’m planting 200 trees for a private customer and would prefer not to use a plastic based tree guard as I’ve struggled to recycle old used ones removed from the same site.

The planting scheme specification requires a 1.2m guard with a 5 year life span. What’s out there and works well?

Thanks for the help.

I looked into this didn't find anything. There are some cardboard ones but they won't last that long and are expensive

Beware that some ones marketed as eco were/are  just plastic without UV stabilizer in so they to brake down faster into mircoplastics so are worse. Greenwash

Think ideally there would be some made from bioplastic: made from corn starch or hemp etc....
