ok thanks all for the replies, so it may be transmissin wind up is what you are mostly saying. Will jack a front wheel up and try to change to 2wd. Would putting it on a lift and trying to change do same thing or do some wheels need to have traction with ground?

Landrover used to have in handbook, if diff lock would not disengage after use, to reverse whilst going lock to lock on the steering, ie reversing the transmission windup.

Yup, good service trasmission oils , grease yr hubs -always gets forgotten . Just had the body off would have been good time but atleast tipping it will get you to most bits without crawling under. K

Just had full service before sent to tipper place, jacked up wheels to release any windup but no spinning of wheels, going to investigate the transfer box solenoid tomorrow...

Something in the transfer box solenoid getting stuck?

Start with power supply, fuse, relay or lose connection. Check earthing points as well.

My mate had some dents put right on his old L200 and when it came back was drive back by garage bod I was there when it turned up and as soon as turned in to his yard you could hear tyres scrub, he got in it and was in 4 wheel drive ask bod why it had been in 4 wheel drive and he had no idea why.
