Yep there are new rules coming in for profesional drivers of C & C+E Vehicles regarding driver development and refresher training. Details can be found most months in Trucking magazine

 

I have worked for quite a few Local Government Organisations and they have all insisted on 3 year refresher courses for infrequent users and 5 year refreshers for frequent users of chainsaws.

Reg, between me and you I think my friend likes to feed myself and my mates scare stories to incline us into further training from which he himself, in the form of training fees, will benefit.

 

Keep it under your hat though my friend, I would hate them to know that we know, what they think that we don't know.

i believe the hgv thing your on about is that drivers will have to undertake 37hrs training within a 5 year period on driver related stuff which hiab sheeting tacho driver awareness ect and this can be done 8hrs per year or as a block

For your NPTC chainsaw certificate to remain valid you have to show evidence of further training every 5 years, i.e. a refresher course. This applies to everyone with an NPTC chainsaw cert no matter how long ago you did it.

It's not legislation, NPTC certs are not law, it's just their own policy - contact your local training centre that run the courses and they will tell you. I sent a trainee on the CS30/31 course last October and he came back with all the latest info. The refresher course for the CS30/31 cert takes 3 days and costs £375 at my local centre. I need to do it but it means taking 3 days off which is a bit of a p*sser.

From what i've heard (word of mouth) refreshers are recomended for both climbing and felling tickets. Getting further units is acceptable I believe

I would imagine that gaining further CS units would count as further training, therefore eliminating the need for a CS30/31 refresher.
