News circled fast within our small arb community today, sadly Mick Dewhurst founder of Eastwood Tree Services passed away to today.

Mick was well known in the arboricultural community all around the country. He, it's safe to say set the standard for tree work in East Anglia for many years! he was one of the pioneers of safe rigging and crane use in the UK.

Mick was never afraid to take on ideas from all over the world, he owned the first stumpgrinders when the rest of us were still digging stumps out, he owned the first chippers in the area, and also the first Unimog, not only was he a local pioneer in machinery, he was the first to use Shigo pruning techniques, as already said he led the way for many years! and was an inspiration to all of us budding arborists in the area.

Today is a sad day for our small community, my sincere condolences go out to his wife family and friends.............

i've known Mick since the early 80's, where we were supervisors on the Suffolk Trust for Nature Conservation. When we left there, Mick went off to set up his business, I went my own way. My father went on to work for him, and was his best-man at his wedding to his wife Marie. I then joined Eastwood Tree Services in 96, and worked with Mick for 5years. His enthusiasm for professionalism in Arb, and his aim to become AAAC was fulfilled. He had high standards, and expected all working for him to have the same standards, and these have stood me in good stead ever since. Thanks Mick for giving me the break into tree work I was after, some of the best days in tree work i ever had were with your company, when we first moved to advanced rigging techniques it seemed revolutionary compared to the wraps on the trunk.

My thoughts and sympathies to Marie, RIP Mick.
