Does anyone know what these are please, going free and was wondering if its worth me collecting

Looks like some type of conifer, leylandii perhaps?

 

It might be a bit tricky to collect looking at the slope in the pic.

I'd say Leyland and if you have a logburner definitely worth the effort; it's great firewood.

It`s "tree wood" ....  cut, split, season, burn & enjoy! ?

Thanks for the replys, thought leyland was no good for log burners but looks like i was wrong ?

Will pick some up and try it next winter ?

It is top banana fire wood . The only wood that is no good for any kind of fire is green un seasoned wood .

Dry wood burns but some woods are more worth the effort of preparation than others.  Leyland splits well, dries well and burns brilliantly.  Others are harder work; I encounter more Lawson's Cypress than Leyland and splitting that is like splitting lignified cotton wool; horrible stuff.

But everyone's taste is different; see how you get on.

Yes the only drawback is that it occupies quite a bit  more space in the log store. I'm beginning to regret having so much softwood in mine this year as I have had to turn away some ash as shed is full.
