The plan is to buy in bulk as it is cheaper, so yeah at least 500l at a time.

Anyway, my problem may well be solved! A mate has something that will likely do the job. The next job will be getting it to the yard, then making a secure enclosure for it to stop the tea leaves having it all away!

All I use is 3x 205 ltr plastic drums, allows me get bulk deliveries and I can pressure wash them out anually. Use a cheap Chinese rotary hand pump for filling machines, just fit battery drill to pump shaft.

I did exactly what you are saying 5 years back. Didn't need a huge amount of diesel as it was just a mini digger and chipper.

I bought a 640L tank from these guys.  Hand pump was ok but ended up putting a 12V on it.  You still get a ok-ish price on red for 500 litres+

We supply tanks, IBC tanks, drums and fittings etc. Large stocks held including recycled and new - based in Gloucestershire

5 years and never had any issues with the tank, any drivers filling it, etc. Easy and £200 ish with delivery.
