subaru estate for woodland work?

I need a 4wd vehicle for woodland work and was thinking of buying something like a subaru forester. I work around the edge of the London low emission zone so old land rovers/pickups are mostly off the menu and newer ones are costly. I tend to hire a forwarder for the heavy work so I just need a vehicle to carry my tools to site and pull my trailer filled with split logs/planks/chestnut fencing/equipment/whatever. I've been using a volvo estate without problems except getting up unsurfaced woodland rides as I cant even rely on summer being dry (not that great in snow and ice either!). Anyone any experience of using a subaru for this type of work or any thoughts/ideas? Thanks, Rob S

I drive a little suzuki jimny when I just need my climbing kit and a couple of saws,it will go places a bigger motor wont,outside of a landy,very light footprint,total reliability,take it easy and you can get 40miles/gal,and they are not expensive to buy or service.

Just an alternative.

thanks, I do a lot of towing,log deliveries etc. however so anything less than a 2 litre engine would struggle.

Yep, not good for heavy towing,1100kg braked max i think,does fine with my tw125 chipper.

I had an old legacy on LPG for a while - was great with the trailer on and would go places the hilux wouldn't. I'd say if the volvo is doing well but lacks grip then a legacy would be a good choice.

stay away from the impreza estate..... i love mine, the nicest car i've ever driven but more thirsty than my landy, and even worse when i put the trailer behind it.

Get a legacy- they are tops, and you'l look like landed gentry if you get an old battered one!
