Recommendations please for alternative to Stihl ms211

Wondering if someone could advise me please. I currently have a Stihl ms211 with 16 inch bar. It worked ok for a few years and then I tackled a huge Ash ( over 100 years old). While eventually it did managed to cut up the massive trunk small enough to split the discs, it has never been quite the same since?! It has lost huge amounts of power and I have no idea what is wrong with it. I did get a new bar as the original was pretty worn but this made no difference to performance.

I am looking to buy a new chainsaw which could accommodate a bar between 16 and say 18 inches. As mentioned I have a brand new Stihl 16 inch bar and a load of 16 inch chains so it would be good to be able to keep using them. I am not that keen on buying another Stihl to be honest. The local Stihl agent is NOT GOOD hence my reluctance to take my chainsaw to them to see if they can sort it. I know it is not either the filter or spark plug, I replaced those and I got a new starter motor about 18 months ago.

Ideally I am looking to buy a chainsaw that can tackle slightly more than the ms211. We have a small wood and use the fallen trees to fuel 2 large wood burning stoves. I would say we use a chainsaw more than just now and again but don’t need anything like a pros chainsaw. I would be really grateful for advice on what to get. Many thanks.

Could just be the carb, a simple fix.

 

Could also be low on compression, ie. buggered.

 

You need to exmplain more what you mean by a lack of power. Where in the UK are you, there might be someone near you.

The Stihl bars wont be any good on another make . Have you checked compression ?  You need 60cc really .

Hello Doobin, oh you did make me laugh re your comment re compression?. The problem is the saw starts ok, ( I was told to give it plenty of reeves to start with as it is now getting slightly old). All fine until you actually place the chain against wood to cut then the chain stops turning, try taking away from wood and replacing again then the saw cuts out. Clueless as to the problem.

Oh that’s a bummer Stubby.Have been looking at the Husky 435 with 18 inch bar and was hoping to use the stihl 16 ins bar for small stuff. I have about 10 16 ins Stihl chains so was hoping to use these too.

18" bar is too big for a 435

It's not a new saw you need, it's some basic training in chainsaw use/maintenance (ie cs30/31)

You are correct, I thought it woulD 18 it’s 15 which is not any better than what we have Thank you.
