Reusing chain oil containers

I was wondering whether anyone knows if used/empty 20 litre chain oil containers are either recycled anywhere or refillable somewhere or if they would cause a problem on a pick up or tractor engine if I were to say, rinse out with diesel, and use them for diesel storage. It seems somehow wrong/shame to throw them away or dispose of them well...... or badly....

Old 20/25l drums have loads of uses, I use them for diesel, used engine oil, water for knapsack spraying, ballast weights etc

Cut the sides open, thread 2 bits of rope through, and they make good strong trugs for carrying logs, tools etc.

Oil drain pan

Water trough for animals (I have one in with the hens)

Parts & tool tray for when you're working under vehicles

The plastic (hdpe) they're made from is very durable, frost proof, can be thrown about, kicked, dropped :damnmate:
