Was thinking £480/m3 was too cheap ??  £900 that Waitrose equates to sounds much better

Down about 10" then a horizontal hole to meet up.

If you've got bigger diameter logs (maybe over 1 foot?) You can make 4 bore cuts down from the top, then 1 from the side near the bottom, and lift out the middle part which should be a long square section the width of the chainsaw bar. Then you can light a fire in the middle with kindling, and keep adding small logs.

Cut from the side, not the top. Gives you masses of lovely shavings to use for firelighting. I light mine by dropping coals from the BBQ down from the top - need to make more - plan is to strap them to the forks on the tractor so I can cut down without hitting anything

Thanks for all the advice. They worked well and kept many of us amused at a wedding reception. I was surprised by how long they lasted. Lit them around 22.00 and they were still going come midnight.
