Thanks Mike, interesting read. I volunteer at our local ancient woods which is Wildlife Trust owned. In recent years the price of timber being higher and desire to thin ash has led them to use contractors to clear some areas, but they left some massive massive ruts behind. Seems like there is nobody with low impact gear covering East Anglia/Northants area.

This is often because timing is bad. One of the things with modern kit is that it has to work every day come wind or rain.  We often would park the tractor forwarder up from autumn to May.

Heating and aircon are very necessary to maintain productivity nowadays. I shall be dreaming of such things as I sit twiddling levers in an open cabbed tractor today, assuming I can get it to start after a month's lay up.
