Working near bat boxes

I’m interested as to what people would do working near bat boxes.

The tree I have is being pruned along with another couple close by on the site.

There are a couple of boxes on the tree which will obviously need to be checked before commencing work, either the night before or morning of.

I’m looking to see what price I should be looking at for an ecologist/ licensed bat handler to come out and check them prior to starting.

The site is in Gloucestershire if that helps.

Thanks

Basically DONT..... Get a guy with bat scoping ticket to assess. Not licensed bat handler, cost lots. I got the ticket and wasn't an arm and a leg. Don't do work until he has done RA-MS fr you. He will or can do method statement for work. Look up BCT for more info. K

What ticket did you do? Was it an aerial bat survey one? Started to think about this recently

Two days, get full bat scoping n RA-MS, bridges gap between t Wildlife n Countryside Act requirements n ending up paying licensed bat handler 600 knicker a day an he can't climb up tree. K

If a box is occupied on the day of work I'm assuming that the work can't be done, because of the risk of disturbance.

Could you check prior to the works and temporarily remove the boxes? (replacing after completion of works)

A bat roost is protected whether or not it is in use at the time. If there is evidence of it having been used, I would be inclined to think any removal of the boxes would be best done with the help of the local bat group to really cover your back.
