Nah, we usually tie in twice. That was Eli, who I hired for that job. He now runs his own biz, but I trained him.

 

As you can see, he wasn't cutting anywhere near his lifeline. I think he pulled that trick to get the lead away from his body, as well as assure that the stem didn't swing into him after the cut was done.

 

Those were some trees, ~145 footers, 7, 6, and 5 feet in diameter.
