Got some black poplar to mill up. Nice and big. About 3’ diameter on some maybe bigger.

What’s poplar like milling up? Will be doing it with the chainsaw.

Absolutely worthless not worth milling; give it all to me instead.

It’s great.

cuts like softwood, sells at hardwood prices.

the really dark, burry stuff is as valuable as walnut.👍

Nice 👍 hopefully get some nice slabs out of it. There’s a fair bit tree to mill.

@AJStrees  Do you use the ladder on every pass?  To ensure its flat and even in and out?

Interested as I only use it first pass.

Bob

Yep. Much easier with the ladder on each cut I find. Especially when coming off at the end.

Do you screw it down to a cut surface?

Yes keeps it all straight, etc... I prefer doing it that way personally. Have tried without and find the mill has more friction on the wood surface than the metal on metal. So have done it like that for the last 3 years to a good result. Yes some small holes in the wood, but that's of no consequence really as they close up somewhat and there are all sorts of imperfections in timber anyway. 👍
