Today's milling

I am the retailer, not nearly big enough of a slice unfortunately. But I was chancing it getting the job, and they are happy with the result! I'll whack some pictures up once the mirror glass arrives.

Are you putting glass in fresh cut timber?

Nah the glass will be in a ply frame that will attach to the back of the timber. Might use some rubber washers or something to keep it off of the fresh stuff. The fresh stuff has still been cut for over 2 years so shouldn't warp too crazy.

I travel nationwide milling for clients,
and I know quite a few tree surgeons and foresters who call me when they have a really nice log.
But often the majority of my work is tree surgery.
The milling has really taken off this year though.
There is money to be made but it's not much, hard to be a full time miller.
The retailer of the mirror gets the big slice.

Agreed, there's call for on-site milling but not enough to make a real living.

Got a mate martin up in brecon and he is flat out all over the place and makes a very good living at it

This is a private client.
I bought the log to mill in place.

I'll ask Bob about highfields when I speak with him next.

Milled this beech today for a client,
It had a fist sized rot pocket,[emoji51]
Pushed the 4' felling bar halfway in[emoji51]
Didn't know if it was worth milling.[emoji51]

Then like a small fire...

Which grew...

Finally found the rot,
Last couple of boards will be a resin job.
