Nothing exciting just slogging out a cut list of DF including a rake of 200x200 4.9s, cold and muddy underfoot but at least no rain. Good opportunity to try a few mods including a secondary supply set up I’ve fitted that allows external hyd supply to be plumbed in, worked really   really well giving flow and speed not shy of the 3 phase set ups, the brace fitted to the end of the arm and running on a linear bearing also went well. It can be removed in 2 mins if you need the extra 180mm width it stops you from using.

What diameter is the pine?

what size mill?

the internalised branches can be incredibly hard and a bit catchy.

I use a narrow 36” mill, 3/8 standard, and full comp full chisel with 90cc,

flys through softwood.

I've got some monster pine logs to mill up, had to take down a 100 or so year old pine. I am wondering if it is going to be worth trying a full chisel chain on it. The semi chisel/ripping chains I have used so far have been really catchy, had same trouble milling up the big poplar with oregon ripping chain full skip on the 881. Got through it all, but a bit painful. Any thoughts from your many years of saw milling experience mate? 👍

Use full comp full chisel.

be very accurate setting your depth gauges.

Go gently through the areas you know have hard knots.

👍

Ok. will give it a go. I did get through the last lot of pine I had between using lo pro chain and full skip .404 ripping. But it took some doing and couldn't just go full throttle. Had to do it fairly slowly and keep revs down to make it through. 👍

Use .404

you should use full throttle nearly always
