Made a start on a fairly large Oak today. Just getting the two ladders needed for the 6.7m log square was a faff. But just taking the top off revealed some stunning Oak. Looking forward to tomorrow when I’ll start taking some slabs off. IMG_2566.jpgIMG_2572.jpgIMG_2583.jpg

Crikey! any idea what your going to do with slabs that size? Enormous :thumbup1:

Nothing saying one can't be cut into the lengths you need so the grain lines up all the way round the worktops just like it would on a table end when you 45 it Les mate

No plans as yet. I get half and the estate owner gets half. Looks like we’ll get 3-4 x 4” slabs each. I’ll just stash them with all my other Oak till either the time is right or a buyer comes along.

Is that big enough to make 12" or 8" beams? I have heard they are very valuable as rare to get big enough stem to make them but interested if that's true.

It’s up to 52” in diameter in places, so yeh I could get a few beams out of it if I was gonna go down that route but I’ll not bother.

There’s other big oaks down on the estate that are up to 10m long but in a smaller diameter. Still big enough to get a 12” beam or two out of them though. Not sure what the market for them is though.
