Till you need to borrow / hire a trailer or vehicle.

Or you break down & they cant tow your trailer.

My plan is to leave trailers and trucks on standard 7 pin and socket and add a remote switch on fog light as already mentioned by Bob.

Yeah avoid external use with the splicers, thats why i suggested weatherproof. 13 pin is good suggestion but depends on rest of your tackle, spuddogs suggestion was a winner, and those LED lamps hes pictured are small, compact and defo bright enough. Be i deal for what you suggested you needed, we run them on our tautliners at work, one on each side plus the central fitted light, only difference is ours are on stand off brackets allowing you to tilt and turn to your desired position. Will take a photo for ya tomoz, but theyre just spliced in to existing reverse circuit.

Ah so the switch is on the trailer.

I must have missed that option. I thought everyone was talking about using a side light wire.

No dont bodge it so its not compatible with any other vehicle or trailer.

Do the job right & fit 13 pin plugs & sockets.

my trailers and trucks wired as they are for the simple reason i got pissed off with people borrowing trailers and not returning them and when i wanted it i had to go and get it, so wired it a bit different so its all to cock on other cars/vans/trucks if i did need to tow with something else it would take me 60 seconds to split plug and swap 2 wires over,

i know that but one lad who is very pushy and would not take no for a answer just used to take it then tell me an hour afterwards so fitted new hitch lock and swaped wireing over and got a phone call one day i cant get your trailer on my car, there is something wrong with the hitch, yes its locked then a bit of a argument started so i just told him to fuck off get your own trailer and then i can use mine when i need to use with out chasing half way round the county for it ,

Another option is a second trailer socket - ie a grey caravan one.

On a box trailer I had years ago I had reverse lights, work lights switchable from the drivers seat, interior strip lighting, and even a camera on the back of the trailer, all running through a 2nd plug and socket
