I got one from the scrapyard, it works..   not that the thing started mind, spent a couple of hrs this afternoon cleaning the fuel lines, got it started just as it was going dark..  just enough time to stuff a trailer load of brash through it though...

If its an 18hp twin v like the one on my chipper, it will have a magneto on the flywheel, and should produce 14.4 volts when running

No Alternator then...

A magneto is a form of alternator eggs yeah, but uses stationary magnets that when spun create pulses of alternating current to run the given electrical circuit / need.
